Sniper Elite V2 Remastered Review

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is a 3rd person stealth shooter. The game takes place towards the end of WW2 in Europe. You play as an elite soldier who is tasked with investigating and stopping the Nazi’s V2 rocket program. The story for this game, in general, is good, but nothing to go home about.

Having said that, Sniper Elite V2 is a game filled with “Xbox, record that” moments. Using stealth to sneak your way around enemies and using booby traps to cover your advance seems to be the most rewarding way to play this game. However, with that being said you can definitely go in guns a blazing if you want. But there does seem to be a primary focus on stealth and in my opinion, sneaking around and timing your shots is when this game is the most fun.

The game does an excellent job in satisfying the player with each kill. No situation always feels completely the same, and the x-ray cam that happens when you hit a really good shot is just brutally fun to watch.

There is also a very good variety in the weapons and equipment you can use. With each weapon having its own pros and cons to them. For instance, one gun might have higher bullet speed but less zoom and another rifle might shoot faster but have more kick and bullet drop with it.

Speaking of bullet drop, that is one of my favorite aspects of this game. As anyone who knows me will tell you I just absolutely love realism in my games. But with that being said the realism is not overdone, and there really isn’t a huge learning curve to any of the in-game mechanics.

Honestly, The only real issue I have is the outdated gameplay. It does not happen all the time. But during my playthrough, the character seemed to stick on corners and other objects when trying to go around them. It’s just not as smooth as other games releasing nowadays. But as this is a remaster of a game that was released in 2012. I do understand why the issue is in this game. I just wished the Developers would have spent a bit more time polishing the gameplay for a 2019 release.

As this is a remaster of the second sniper elite game. The graphics have been significantly improved upon. This game isn’t going to win graphics of the year by any means. But the game does look good none the less and the developers have really done a fantastic job increasing the textures and adding more details to the world.

Graphically speaking the only issue I noticed during my playthrough of this game was that when looking at bodies of water from a certain angle; you can see some weird texturing when you rotate the camera around. This isn’t to big of an issue as you will only experince this on a couple of levels and they will most likely patch this. I just thought I would mention it.

Overall Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is a very solid game with a few minor issues. But altogether the game carries quite a bit of content. Outside of its main campaign the game also features a PVP multiplayer mode as well as co-op, and quite a few side activities.

If you are interested you can buy Sniper Elite V2 Remastered on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC for 34.99 USD.
